F - Flag

Much, like yesterday’s letter, I knew pretty early on that I wanted F to be Flag.

So I started much the way you would imagine, I set up the scene, added some wind, and let it fly. I learned very quickly after that initial test that perhaps simulations weren’t the way to go on this one.

Now don’t get me wrong, the flag worked, however it was the looping aspect that proved to be the hard part, I couldn’t get the frames to line up properly, and simply fading one out in the other left weird gaps, ghost flags in the background.

I knew I needed something more controlled, but still sold the idea, and the effect of a flag, and I must say, I’m very pleased aesthetically with how this one turned out, it feels like it fits in with all the other animations, in a way that a real wind and cloth simulation might not.
