N - Neon

For today’s letter, I went with Neon. When I originally started to plan this project out N was the first letter I had locked in. I knew what I wanted it to be, and I knew how I wanted it to look, funnily enough despite that knowledge, this one took me a while.

See, when I started the project in Maya I knew I wanted to have a flickering sign effect, so I spent a little while researching how to generate that effect in Maya. Between the research required, and trying to render out quick 256 x 256 videos to see if the effect was working how I liked, I knew I was wasting too much time.

I then went a different approach and found a single line of After Effects “Code” that allowed me to flicker the animation in a way I wanted, this whole animation is two frames, just flickering between the two randomly.

It’s easily the quickest render time for a project here but has some of the most satisfying results.
