For today’s letter, I went with “Retro” because as anyone who knows me will tell you I have a strange obsession with the ’80s. Not sure when it started, but lately I just can’t get enough of it, the music, the aesthetic, the cheesy movies, I love it all. So I thought then I would make a homage to that with some lovely retro feeling R goodness.
This one was definitely a bit of a learning challenge as I needed to not only create the effect of the lines moving through the R but perhaps more challenging was how to texture the R.
Everything but the glow is done in Maya. So when the lines move they technically create a new mesh every frame, that would need to be properly unwrapped. Thankfully I learned about transferring attributes which saved me a whole of work and a lot of migraines and is my new learned skill for this GIF. Perfect!
